What is a BSB Code?

BSB code – Bank State Branch code – is a 6-digit code used to identify the individual branch of an Australian financial institutions. BSB Code along with the bank account number helps identify recipient of a transfer.  

BSB code format – a 6-digit format (XXY-ZZZ) wherein the first 2 two digits (XX) specifies the financial institution to which the money is sent; the 3rd (Y) tells the state it is located in; the last 3 digits (ZZZ) specifies the address of the branch.
